The U.S. Department of Labor\u2019s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA<\/a>) recently published a revised handbook<\/a> on workplace safety and health information for Small Employers (250 workers or smaller). OSHA partnered with the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH<\/a>) to highlight the benefits of implementing an effective safety and health program, provides self-inspection checklists for Employers to identify workplace hazards and to review important workplace safety and health resources for small businesses.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Every year, more than 5,000 workers are killed on the job, with an\u00a0average of 14 deaths per day. More than 3.6 million\u00a0annually\u00a0suffer a serious job-related injury or illness. One serious workplace injury\u00a0or illness, beyond the potentially devastating impact\u00a0on\u00a0the injured party,\u00a0can have\u00a0further damaging\u00a0repercussions\u00a0for\u00a0a small business:\u00a0including costs associated with higher\u00a0workers\u2019 compensation premiums, medical expenses, legal fees, replacement worker training, lost\u00a0productivity, equipment repairs,\u00a0and lower\u00a0employee\u00a0morale.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0OSHA and NIOSH revised Safety Handbook<\/a>\u00a0is\u00a0instrumental in\u00a0promoting\u00a0a safe,\u00a0healthful workplace\u00a0and\u00a0in\u00a0allowing\u00a0Employers to invest in a safety and health program now to avoid\u00a0possible losses in the future.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
